Members of the producing sector of our country came, saw, and got the job done in Washington, D.C. Exceeding the expectations of the loose association of organizers, the 9-12 Tea Party Rally on Saturday delivered over 100,000 people to the steps of our Capitol building. The D.C. mashup was a huge emotional energizer for anyone who has advocated for smaller government over the last half century. It could go down as the freedom movement's Woodstock, without the mud and trash and misbehavior.

I was on the scene, getting on the Pentagon City station Metro at 10:30 a.m. until returning on the Smithsonian station Metro at 5:30 p.m. In that entire time I did not witness a single altercation or even a heated shouting match. This was a crowd of people who held real jobs. They had to take time off from work to attend and they paid their own way to get there. Anyone in elected office who isn't paying attention to what is going on here is doing so at their electoral peril.

The orderly crowd was full of people who drove and flew in from around the country to express their displeasure with the "more government is the solution to every problem" attitude of our Congress. To be sure, the crowd covered a wide spectrum of world views, but from talking to people and scanning across the sea of placards and T-shirts, the phrase "enough already" might have been the unifying meme of those who participated.

That is, whatever element of big government many in attendance might not have been willing to give up — the ability to wage big wars being the most prominent — it did not appear that many in the crowd would disagree that whatever the right size of government might be, what we currently have is far more than enough. "Please, No more Wall Street bailouts, no more stimulus, no more government health care, no more government. Enough already!" This was the mantra of the crowd in D.C.

Of course, with such an event in play, you knew some Birchers and their friends were going to show up. I was the nominal instigator of a contingent from North Carolina and Virginia. I had told people to expect a turnout of at least 25,000, possibly as high at 50,000, and had said also that if it breaks 100,000 let's all be really excited because there is no way even the controlled media can discount an outpouring of discontent on that scale.  

Even staying true to our plan of trying to qualify people with some conversation before handing them examples of JBS educational material, we easily distributed over 4,000 pieces of Real Newt DVD's, Monetary Mayhem New American reprints and Stop the NAU trifolds.

The question is, what do we do now? If "everything changed" after 9/11, how can we change it back after 9/12? 

There is a reason we picked the material we did to distribute at the D.C. Tea Party. The Tea Party movement, still a loose association of honest grassroots organizations, is up for grabs. GOP and War Party operatives are gunning to hijack the movement.

We need to avoid another repeat of the failed 1994 Conservative Revolution. Experts at running controlled opposition operations are working to bring the likes of Newt Gingrich back for another round of false advocacy for smaller government. That is why we are getting out copies of the John F. McManus speech, "The Real Newt Gingrich." Gingrich is not the solution. He is part of the problem.

Likewise, we can't let the sudden health care crisis debate distract us from the hand that the money trust, otherwise known as the Federal Reserve, has had in turning our country into a nation of debt slaves. Follow the money. Our severe financial predicament can be used and is being used to fundamentally alter the world political-economic situation in ways that are damaging to the concepts of freedom, sovereignty, and limited goverment under the Constitution.

To be successful, we have to win the battle for the hearts and minds of the majority of people who came to Washington, D.C., on 9-12. We have to convince enough of these newly awakened and suddenly energized of two essential and interwoven truths: 

1. It is utterly impossible to maintain a worldwide military empire and expect to have small government at home. 
2. It is utterly impossible to have people around the world accept unbacked fiat money for real goods and services without a worldwide military empire.

Our propensity to engage in foreign military adventures and our reliance upon monetary manipulators must be radically changed if we are to regain the freedoms won for us on the battlefield over 200 years ago. After that everything is easy.  

The Tea Party in D.C. is a good beginning. Let's get to work....

Being a former member of the J.B.S.1973-1980, I'am disappointed by your article in several ways: 1-This gathering was the largest gathering of conservatives to DC in history.(100,000 by your estimate truly low.)
2-Ron Paul currently has a bill with formidible support to audit the Federal Reserve. Your not mentioning this is irresponsible after stating how this money trust is one of our greatest threats.
3-The best literature offered by the J.B.S. was about Newt Gingrich, the North American Union, and the Federal Reserve. We are witnessing the debauching of our currency described by Keynes through wholesale printing (inflation) of the money supply. It would seem to me that Newt Gingrich and the N.A.U. are minor compared to our economic imperatives currently presented. J.B.S. and its TRIM commitees were models for its time. J.B.S. should focus on the Fed Audit and good old fashion campaign writing to these bureaucrats. They back tracked on obamcare. They want to keep their jobs! I find J.B.S. still one of the most well grounded, informative, freedom loving organizations around. Thanks for reading.

Dan, Thanks for the return encouragement.

Ed, Thanks too. You are correct. Putting an actual link in the article's closing "Audit The FED" picture to our Audit the FED Birch campaign would have been a good idea.

There was actually an additional line regarding crowd size that was edited out. When we did that, we should have added the words "well over" in front of the 100,000.

Keep in mind that original projects for the event were from 25,000 to 50,000. A week ago people were rightfully feeling that a stretch/fabulous number of something well over 100,000 would be too big for anyone to ignore. That was done. Everyone should be proud.

Action and JBS action at that

I can see the man looking at the DVD someone was just handed a DVD - a Birch produced video?

The Tea Party photos are hitting the e-mail lists. I received one such e-mail. I replied:

"I enjoyed the diary notes and the photographs from the D.C. Tea Party Express - Very inspirational.May I offer some thoughts on the march?

If the Major News Media will not provide honest coverage of Tea Party Events, perhaps, the Tea Party needs to hit the neighborhoods of the District of Columbia. Team up with your particular advocacy group be it Abolish the Fed, reduce the debt, cap and trade, healthcare, Get US out of the United Nations, etc and take your literature to those folks who need your guidance and information- people in their homes and businesses.

... The Tea Party must also be educational beyond the slogans, which I enjoy immensely, but they won’t get the job done until depth is added to the slogans via a DVD, pamphlet, or some reprinted article which explains the issues.
