Keep on Fighting Freedom-Destroying Bills and Sovereignty-Destroying Treaties

by Larry Greenley, Director of Marketing

Even though it’s December, we must keep on fighting bad legislation and treaties. Congress will be open for business right up to Christmas, if need be, to pass healthcare reform. Furthermore, it’s quite possible that the Senate will vote on ratification of the dangerous United Nations’ Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) in December.

Also register your strong opposition to any new domestic cap-and-trade tax bill in the Senate as well as any international cap-and-trade climate-change treaty that might emanate from the UN’s Copenhagen meeting, December 7-18.

Oppose Government Takeover of Healthcare!
With the House passage of its H.R. 3962 healthcare reform bill on November 7 by 220-215, the healthcare battle now moves on to the Senate. Although the President is pressuring the Senate to vote on its healthcare bill soon enough so that a final healthcare bill can be passed by both the House and Senate before Christmas, Senate leaders are still pointing to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) as the holdup and refusing to be “bound by any timelines” on healthcare. Based on all of these factors, a vote on healthcare reform is likely in the Senate in early- to mid-December. Contact your senators in strong opposition to a government takeover of healthcare as embodied in the House bill, H.R. 3962, and in the two versions of healthcare reform as drafted in two Senate committees. Use all avenues of influence, such as, personal visits, phone calls, emails, and faxes. Remind all those senators up for election in 2010 and 2012 that this will be a top campaign issue. Oppose Ratification of the UN’s LOST Treaty!

Ratification of this UN treaty would be a huge blow to American sovereignty. Just look at how this treaty is described on the UN’s official website:

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.... Its scope is vast: it covers all ocean space, with all its uses, including navigation and overflight; all uses of all its resources, living and non-living, on the high seas, on the ocean floor and beneath, on the continental shelf and in the territorial seas; the protection of the marine environment; and basic law and order.... The Convention is widely recognized by the international community as the legal framework within which all activities in the oceans and the seas must be carried out. [“25th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” www.un.org, Oct. 17, 2007]

Contact both of your senators by personal visit, phone calls, emails, and faxes in opposition to ratification of LOST. To send a pre-written, editable email, go to JBS.org and click on “Legislative Action” under the “Action” menu item.

Oppose Cap-and-Trade in the Senate!
Although all the public furor over healthcare reform has set back plans for a Senate vote on a cap-and-trade energy tax bill, rest assured that there will eventually be a Senate vote on an economy-destroying bill similar to the one passed by the House on June 26. Once again, be in contact with your Senators in opposition to such a bill. To send a pre-written, editable email, go to JBS.org and click on “Legislative Action” under the “Action” menu item.

Oppose any  UN Copenhagen Treaty on Climate Change!
Recently Lord Monckton from the UK has been issuing stern warnings to America not to ratify any Copenhagen Treaty on climate change that might result from the UN meeting in Copenhagen December 7-18. Such a treaty would be an international cap-and-trade agreement that would include massive “climate debt” payments from the United States and Europe to repay third world nations for all the “damage” we’ve done to them by producing carbon dioxide. Ratification of this treaty would also be a major step toward a totalitarian United Nations world government.
